We approached John, a master woodworker, with the idea of creating a considered series of images that captured his craftsmanship, personality and working environment. The goal was to create a body of work strong enough to stand on its own while also demonstrating the type of creative photography we can bring to agencies and brands.

There is something special about spending time with someone who has dedicated their life to mastering a craft. We spent a full day in John’s workshop, slowing the process down and allowing him to work naturally through the techniques and processes he has refined over decades.

The photography focused on the details, his hands, the timber, the tools and the precision of his work, while also capturing the personality and character behind the craft. Rather than simply documenting what he does, we wanted to make the craftsmanship feel considered and the timber feel like a work of art.
